Disney World monorail evacuated after outage | National News - WGAL Home

Monorail-Disney "When we sat there, we heard a lot of thunder and saw a few bolts of lightning," the 15-year-old said. Suddenly, with the monorail about 30 feet in the air, the train came to a halt. "It wasn't a jolting stop, but it did stop really fast -- the monorail glided to a stop," Lily said. Without the air conditioner running, the train car got pretty hot over the next 90 minutes. As they waited for firefighters to help them off, the stranded visitors passed the time by chatting with each other and messaging friends. No one seemed to panic, Lily said. Firefighters later managed to pop open the top hatch of the train car -- but opted to escort passengers out through the doors, using a lift. That actually disappointed Lily. "I kind of wanted to go through the top, I thought it'd be fun," she said.

Seaworld Taps Coca-cola Breakthrough Plantbottle Technology To Create First Consumer Cup

SeaWorld Taps Coca-Cola Breakthrough Plantbottle Technology to Create First Consumer Cup by Staff Comments Being green is oh-so refreshing. That was the message today as SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment debuted the first refillable plastic cup made from plant-based materials. Now available in all SeaWorld and Busch Gardens parks across the U.S., the reusable, 100-percent recyclable plastic cup is manufactured using proprietary PlantBottle packaging technology from the company's beverage partner, Coca-Cola. "Working together, our two companies are using our resources and reach to inspire people to make a difference," said SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment Corporate Vice President of Culinary Operations Andrew Ngo. "Our friends at The Coca-Cola Company share our commitment to conservation, our passion for the planet, and our innovative approach to consumer experiences. Even more important, this appeals to our guests, who expect and reward recycling and sustainability." PlantBottle packaging swaps traditional plastic resins with natural sugars found in plants. Fewer fossil-based ingredients mean a smaller carbon footprint. SeaWorld?s switch to PlantBottle plastic in its refillable cups is expected to remove 35 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually -- the equivalent of saving more than 80 barrels of oil a year. The unique PlantBottle technology is popular packaging for Coca-Cola?s bottled beverages. SeaWorld takes this technology to a new level, creating the first commercially available consumer product: a refillable plastic cup. Since The Coca-Cola Company introduced PlantBottle technology in 2009 as the first recyclable PET plastic bottle made partially from plants, more than 450,000 barrels of oil have been saved. And, more than 20 billion PlantBottle packages have been distributed in 31 countries worldwide. "Once we fully realized the power of PlantBottle technology, we knew it had real-world, global applications well beyond our own products," said Scott Vitters, general manager, PlantBottle packaging platform, The Coca-Cola Company. "This collaboration with SeaWorld demonstrates that PlantBottle technology can be applied anywhere that PET plastic is traditionally used, but with a lighter footprint on the planet.? Colorful http://disneyworldtoddlers.wordpress.com in-park murals and point-of-purchase displays promoting environmental advocacy will help inform park guests of the new product. SeaWorld eventually plans to use Coca-Cola's PlantBottle technology in the manufacture of many of its souvenir cups and is actively exploring opportunities for its potential use in the development of other merchandise. SeaWorld and Coca-Cola have also partnered on two other initiatives that promote conservation and sustainability: - In 2013 SeaWorld introduced the Cup That Cares-- a reusable cup with an embedded RFID chip that interacts with Coca-Cola Freestyle dispensers in the theme parks and calculates the amount of carbon guests keep from the environment by refilling their cups. - All fountain drinks are served in paper cups made from 85 percent renewable resources. This is a sizeable commitment: 14.6 million paper cups are used each year throughout the company's 11 theme parks.

What Makes The Wall Street Journal Look Like The Wall Street Journal - Yahoo Finance

New York Times But compare the Journal's first-ever paper with this vision of how it might have covered the news from that day with 2014 sensibilities and note that the paper keeps its two-cent price tag but acquires the mark of its modern owner, News Corp, in this alternate reality. View gallery . Wall Street Journal "I think the two most significant changes that the Journal has gone through have been the introduction of color and the introduction of photography," Yu said. "Needless to say, we were not first when it came to photos and color but we've definitely adopted them in a big way," she continued. "We have humongous photos on our front page." It took some major technological changes for that to happen. In fact, the same workflow that prevented photography for so long was also directly tied to all kinds of design decisions, including the use of the Journal's famous stipple drawingsthose dotted portraits of columnists and newsmakersand the typeface used in the paper. "When I first joined the paper, they were still pencil editing, which really blew my mind," said Jim Pensiero, who is deputy managing editor at the Journal and has been on staff at the paper since 1984. "There was no technology in the newsroom at that time." So the process of turning pencil-edited stories in the afternoon into newspapers that landed on subscriber's doorsteps the next morning was, by today's standards, almost unbelievably complex. The newsroom would fax its stories to composing rooms in places like Chicopee, Massachusetts and Naperville, Illinois, where the stories would be typed into a computer. "From the computer, they then make cold type, strips of paper which you would then paste on a board," Pensiero said.

All Walt Disney World Resort rooms with the exception of DVC Villas, the family suites at the Art of Animation and All-Star Movie resorts, and the cabins at Fort Wilderness are impacted. Disney says "the schedule for replacing the refrigerators at these Resorts is expected to last several months." In the interim, if you have a reservation at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel and need a refrigerator for medical reasons, we recommend contacting your resort directly to inquire about availability during your trip. The hotel should be able to arrange for one if your room does not yet have a new refrigerator, but supplies may be limited while they work to replace all of the malfunctioning units. Polynesian Never Land Club Children's Activity Center closed for refurbishment through January 1, 2015. Polynesian Refurbishment of the lobby is slated to begin March 14.
